Bashkim Kadriu MD, FACP, currently holds the position of the Director, Clinical Leader, Neuroscience Experimental Medicine (Neuroscience Therapeutic Area) Janssen Research & Development, La Jolla, California. Previously he has served as Acting Deputy Director at the Office of Clinical Research, and also a Neuroscientist at the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch, National Institute of Mental Health, NIH, Bethesda, being the first Albanian to ever work as Physician-Scientist at the world most prestigious research institution.
Dr. Kadriu is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his medical school training at the University of Prishtina, Kosova and relocated to Chicago, where he worked for 9 years as research postdoc and scientist at the University of Illinois at Chicago and later at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York City . He later completed his Psychiatry Residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his Fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda.
His previous research interests include the neurobiological correlates of treatment-resistant mood disorders with an emphasis on discovering biosignatures that guide novel fast-acting therapies in depression and mood disorders. Currently his work at J&J focuses on early drug discovery on mood disorder.
Over the years of training experience as basic neuroscientist and researcher Dr. Kadriu published over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles, several book chapter and presented his work at the most reputable scientific journals and conferences in the field. He received numerous awards for exceptional clinical care and prominent awards as young investigator, including a recent NIH Dr. Richard J. Wyatt Award for Translational Research and NARSAD Investigator Award from Brain and Behavioral Research Foundation. He also received US citizenship through the path of exceptional accomplishments in science.
Dr. Kadriu and his family has recently relocated at La Jolla, California for his new job. His greatest joy in life is being a father to his son Lorik.
